Induction to Industrial Sewing Machine

Having never used an industrial sewing machine, it was great to finally get an induction.
It still look really daunting, however I really enjoyed the industrial over locker, so maybe I will enjoy the industrial sewing machine as well.

This is the particular brand they have at my university; however I am sure other brands of industrial sewing machines are just as good.

The biggest difference between a domestic and industrial sewing machine is that an industrial has a large motor that powers the machine.

So as you would expect, you begin the process by turning on this motor.

The bobbin on an industrial is filled up similarly to a domestic; however, there is this amazing contraption where you can fill a new bobbin whilst sewing with another bobbin. I got so excited just finding that out.

The bobbin once sufficiently full is put in to the machine, but underneath the bench that the sewing machine is mounted on.

I have also now been informed that it is bad practice to un-thread an industrial sewing machines, simply due to the fact that it takes slightly more time than usual to thread and industrial sewing machine. It is best to just tie the new bit of thread to the old thread and pull it all the way through the machine.

For a domestic sewing machine there is just a small presser foot that moves the needle, on industrial machines there is a large plate that you press down on.

However this is where an industrial sewing machines can feel very daunting, to help control the speed better use both feet on the plate, the back foot counter acting that of the front foot. To prevent you from getting tired you can also at regular intervals change which foot is leading and which foot is balancing. This helps control the speed if the needle, and hopefully help with confidence of sewing on an industrial sewing machine
.
To life the foot on the sewing machine there is a convenient knee rest that, as the name suggest you push to the right with you knee to life the foot and put fabric beneath.

An industrial sewing machine is good for most fabrics, and great for sewing large amounts of the same type of costume. However an industrial sewing machine is not good for silks, satins and chiffons, for these more delicate fabrics it is better to use a domestic sewing machine.

Now to get to work on an industrial sewing machine.
