Bodice Construction

The first task to construct the bodice is to get the corset under lay flat tacked to the right corresponding bodice pieces.

The flat tacking works to hold the fabric together as well as giving reference lines for the designer to see in fittings.

The flat tacking lines also show the seam allowance and so help when matching pattern pieced together for sewing.

We has all of the pieces cut out and flat tacked together, the next step was to sew the fabric together.

Here is a tip for future costumers, to stop this happening (BELOW)
It is best to sew panel pieces together in pairs, this prevents the fabric moving around and not lining up properly, the fabric tends to move about when there are lots of layers, working against each other.

When pinning out fabric together we were very surprised to find that some of the stripes were lining up despite not trying to watch the stripes across the panels, only to keep the same stripes in the same panels.

With the bodice constructed and all panels sewn together we could insert the boning again, and then finish of the edges a bit, by cutting them down and making them look neater.

With the skirt and the bodice it would seem only logical to next made the sleeves and get them attached to the costume as soon as possible.
